The Ideal Choice for Shelter Renewal
A Telecom operator in the northern part of China was searching for a passive cooling solution in order to achieve their energy saving target for their base stations.
The city in which the Telecom operator is situated is often exposed to sand storms, fog and pollution. This can be a challenging task for operators since products/cooling solutions that can resist these circumtances are very limited, which leaves the Telecom operators less choices for cooling solutions. Furthermore, the client did not want to make a big hole in the wall due to the space limitation and pollution during the re-construction.
Danthem recommended Split Thermosiphon 440 to this Telecom operator for the following reasons,

  • The installation is very simple; it barely brings any damage to the original shelter construction. The indoor and outdoor unit is connected through a small hole in the wall (φ6cm).
  • No filter is needed; it is a closed loop cooling system. The customer no longer needs to worry about the filter getting blocked by sand or dust to decrease the maintenance costs.

Thermosiphon Technology Advantages

Dantherm is one of the early suppliers to bring Thermosiphon concept to the market. Thermosiphon is a passive cooling system, which is often installed in renewed base stations to work together with an existing active cooling unit in order to improve energy efficiency.
Thermosiphon heat exchanger utilises the basic concept of evaporation and condensation. The compressor is not needed in the whole unit; hence, the unit will be running in conditions where the outdoor temperature is lower than the indoor temperature. Since the compressor is not needed in the whole unit, the Thermosiphon is considered a solution to meet the desired energy saving target.
Reconstruction of a base station includes renewal for cooling systems inside of the base station. This reconstruction can bring a lot of challenges to most of Telecom operators because they are always searching for the best solution which also takes the least damage to the original construction.
Split Thermosiphon is specially designed for the customers who cannot change the construction of the base station. The requirement for installing a Dantherm Split Thermosiphon solution is to open a very small hole in the wall to let a pipe go through (the diameter less than 6cm).

The Telecom operator tested Dantherm Split Thermosiphon in March, 2013 and they are very satisfied with the testing results. There has been a decrease of 67% in their power consumption of the Air conditioner compared with the same period in 2012. They plan to use Split Thermosiphon as their energy saving solution.
